Detect braids, afros, cornrows and more with machine learning and black girl magic.
I spent a couple of days building the first machine learning model that can accurately identify black girl hairstyles in the browser.
To make this, I scraped the internet for thousands of images of popular styles worn particularly by black women. After cleaning the data I quickly trained a model using TensorFlow‘s easy-to-use TeachableMachine tool.
I then exported the model for use with Tensorflow.js and incorporated it in a utility web app I built that gives black women hair tips depending on the weather forecast.
